About Us
Service Projects
We support several local service projects on a regular basis with other annual events added on a member interest basis. We are the sponsoring Kiwanis Club for the Raleigh Charter High School Key Club with membership over 200 students.
2009-2010 Projects:
- We adopted Conn Elementary School to be recipients of donations and volunteer hours during this administrative year. So far this fall we have donated $400 worth of school supplies, 100 dictionaries to the school, sponsored students to travel to Washington DC, donated 14 frozen turkeys for Thanksgiving for students' families, and donated holiday gifts from the school Giving Tree for needy students.
- We provide condiments for the Alliance for AIDS Services Carolina Drag Bingo concession stand. This includes homemade chili, cole slaw, and providing other condiments for hot dogs and veggie burgers. We also help with set up and clean up for the event.
- Division 12 Kiwanis has purchased 14,000 dictionaries to distribute to the 3rd graders of Wake County Public Schools. We distributed 500+ to four elementary schools in Raleigh/Cary. This ensures each student has their own dictionary to enhance their education and let them know they matter.
- Capital Area Teen Court is an individual volunteer opportunity many members participate in as their schedule permits. www.capitalareateencourt.org We serve as facilitators to help the student jury and exit interviews.
Club History
Kiwanis Young Professionals of Raleigh was chartered on October 19, 2000 by a group of community minded young professionals. Many of the charter members were active in Kiwanis service leadership programs: Key Club and Circle K. We wanted to continue our Kiwanis Family involvement with a stronger focus on hands on service versus simply donating personal funds to charities.
We have the same values as every other Kiwanis Club, but we simply do things a little different than your grandfather's Kiwanis Club.
In 2008, Kiwanis Young Professionals of Cary (chartered in 2001) merged with KYP-Raleigh to form the newly named Kiwanis Young Professionals of Greater Raleigh. This merger brought together two clubs with similar volunteer experience, leadership training, but also new fresh ideas to serve the Triangle community and beyond.
